He said it is a fungus and would go away on its own, just keep the area shaved, clean and dry. It looks crusty and horrible. It doesn’t seem to bother the dog, it just looks awful. Is there any thing to do (that isn’t bad for the dog) to help it heal faster? My vet said there are medications but they can have side effects and it usually goes away on its own in 4-8 weeks.

Shelby P asked:

He has a bald spot on his head, and the vet says its a possibality that it may be ringworm.
We just got him 2 weeks ago and he started to grow a bald spot on his head. The vet said that our small dog might like him too much and lick his head a lot and watch out for that. it has been 2 days and I can see little hairs starting to grow back. The vet also said that if he DOES have a ringworm then we will see more spots on him. The vet concluded it all with a ” Give it a week and if his hair grows back, he’s ok. but if it gets worse, with more spots, etc, take him back and we will test him.” He is not acting different, always playful. I looked up a piture of a at with ringworm on googe and I saw a cat who also had a bald spot, but it was orange looking. My kitten, Oscar, just has a regular bald spot and there is no orange, just a little “boo-boo” from our 3 year old dog who may have been playing too rough. PLEASE tell me what my kitten may, or may not have.
