No you can’t get it from being next to them. But skin to skin contact, wearing their clothing or in damp shared environments like showering after them.
First of all, it’s not really a worm (parasite), it’s a fungal infection. That being said, you can get it from contact, or coming in contact with things they have, but not from being near them.
