Ringworm Treatment FAQ :
No local vets treat birds and my cockatiel has ringworm, I believe. The bird has red, bleeding patches and is losing feathers. Help!

I don’t know about cockatiels, but things to treat ringworm on cattle are:
Vaseline (apply after washing the area – it chokes the ringworm)
Toothpaste (ringworm doesn’t like flouride)
Zinc (promotes healing)
“Coppertox” (from a veterinary supply store) is useful but is toxic if consumed (licked off the feathers, etc).
You might also try the treatments for “athletes foot” in humans (like miconazole, micatin, lotrimin and mycelex), though I don’t know how toxic those might be for birds. For dogs, “you can use lotrimin (clotrimazole) or micatin (miconazole) on the spots. The problem is that the spores can spread if you just treat a small area. The shampoos are very powerful and can treat the entire dog, not just the spots”. From:…
You can catch ringworm from your pet – it can even get under your nails and destroy your nails, so wear rubber gloves when you wash and treat the infected areas. “Bird owners are being warned not to let their feathered friends walk on their heads following an increase in cases of ringworm of the scalp”.
