My family has been dealing with ringworm of the scalp for years and have not been able to get a cure for it. Most dermatologists just say that it’s “sebhorreic dermatitis” even though SD is not contagious at all and this ringworm is very contagious! It has spread from outside our family and to all our family and to other people too. So far everyone has been told it is SD by these dermatologists who won’t even listen to the symptoms. The pharmacist said that it definitely sounds like ringworm and doesn’t know why no doctor will say it’s SD. What are we supposed to do?!?
The last sentance should say “The pharmacist said that it definitely sounds like ringworm and doesn’t know why no doctor will say it’s **NOT** SD. What are we supposed to do?!?”
We have used OTC antifungal creams and the ringworm goes away while we are using them (even though they say don’t use on scalp) and then when we stop using them it just comes back. We have used it for months on end and it always comes back when we stop using the creams. We have tried so many dermatolgists and they all just say it’s SD, even though we tell them all the symptoms and that we know this isn’t SD. Why is it so hard to get diagnosed and get the oral meds? That’s what is supposed to cure it.

Why not buy some Lamisil or Lotrimin (stuff used for jock itch or atheletes foot cram) and apply it to the areas for about 10days or as directed on the package. Make sure to wash your hands and use Purell every chance you get so it does not spread. Ringowrm is caused by the same thing athletes foot so the cream will help and its cheap.
If it is SD then it wont go away with Lamisil. If it is SD, apply a bit of baby oil, let it sit for 15minutes and take a fine tooth comb and it should scrape/flake off in chunks. Wash the scalp afterwards. It will be red/pink for a day but the skin will return to normal shortly after. You can also go to the baby aisle and pick up cradle cap oil/shampoo.
Use an antifungal cream on the scalp. You don’t need a script for this as this is athletes foot cream, jock itch cream or vaginal yeast cream. You can also consider using tea tree oil on the scalp and sit with a shower cap on for 20-30 minutes and then shampoo with a tea tree oil based shampoo.
well, if you are so certain that it is ringworm why not try some over the counter clotrimazole and see if it goes away?
Go to another Doctor that will actually listen to what you are saying!!!
