I just posted a question a little bit ago about my ringworm problem and i later thought that i might be getting it from my dog! how can i tell if my dog has ring worm?
The only sure-fire way is to have him tested at your vets office. They can prescribe medication for the dog to treat the ringworm. Most likely, ketoconazole or a topical.
EDIT: “that guy” below my answer CLEARLY does not know what ringworm is! It is a skin fungus that spreads through touch! Not an ‘actual’ worm….NOT an intestinal parasite.
#2 EDIT: Ringworm CAN NOT change to mange! Ringworm is a fungus, mange is a skin parasite. Honestly, some people answering this question need to do their research first! Lol.
When we thought my pup had worms we simply took her to the vet and they checked her. That’s probably the easier thing you can do, and there they can find her a good treatment if she is carrying ringworm.
The best way to tell is giving a fecal sample to your vet! But other symptoms include loss of appitite, lethargic, wt. loss, visual of worms in stool. But be sure to wash hands after any contact with animal until you know for sure!! I’m a vet tech. and I know the # 1 way is to bring the stool sample to your vet!!!
If you have something similar from your dog, ringworm is one thing you can give your dog or your dog can give you. (It’s not actually a worm, but fungal infection.)
Please don’t follow the directions of someone that says they are a Vet or Vet tech! You have no way of knowing and taking their advice could be futile or even dangerous!
(and this is NOT in reference to “Catnip” above. I do realize some are Vet techs or experienced, but the point is, if you don’t know who is or isn’t, then it can be dangerous.
Well mine got these little raised patches where the skin and the hair would just flake off…then more and more circular losses of fur. Vet did a scrape of his skin and he tested positive for ringworm
well my dog had it once. He didn’t eat much and he had little white things sticking out of his fur, around the **** area. So yea got him medicine and he was just fine, hope this was helpful.
Get to a veteranarian fast!!!! They have plenty of shots and powders to control this……ringworm can change into mange if not caught soon enough…….mange can be deadly…….get to a vet fast!!!!!
Believe it or not, ringworm will show up in a blacklight. However, it is highly contageous to other animals and to you, so the vet trip is pretty much mandatory. It takes as long as 14 days to grow a culture, and then a minimum of 21 days for the meds to work, at which time you need to grow another culture to make sure it is gone. You are talking about more than a month is quarrantine. And you need to wash your hands every time you touch the dog, or you may spread it elsewhere on the dog.
The last dog I had treated for ringworm-his culture grew like crazy in less than 6 days, and his treatment was successful after 21 days.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard of a pet having ring worm. But i’m no vet, that’s who you should ask.

When my dog got ringworm, it was round and red. It was sort of scaly and dry, and about a centimeter long.
Trust me, you can tell.
Take her to the vet.
We had to give her about 5 pills a day, and we had to give pills to our cats to prevent them from getting it.
Its a mess that is better if caught early.
